Bay Area Legal Aid (Bay Legal) focuses its resources on four priority areas identified by the community as most pressing: Affordable Housing, Health Care Access, Economic Security, and Domestic Violence Prevention. In 2000, Bay Legal provided services to more than 2,500 people in Santa Clara County and outreach to hundreds more. In total, the agency closed more than 9,100 cases in 2000, with greatest case activity in the areas of housing, economic security, family law, and healthcare (in that order).  Bay Legal collaborates with the Pro Bono Project in the area of family law, to provide comprehensive services to the people of Santa Clara County.  The Santa Clara County Office 2000 budget was $744,000. Bay Legal receives grants from the Legal Services Corporation, other government sources,
private foundations, corporations and concerned community members.

Bay Legal’s Santa Clara County office is located in downtown San José. The office includes seven attorneys and three non-attorney advocates. Executive Director Ramón Arias and Managing Attorney Tom Weathered lead the staff.
